Senior Originator, Power

The Senior Originator will be responsible and accountable for executing the origination strategy of the company in the USA market with a concentration on the Commercial and Industrial (C&I) segment. The Originator will work closely with other Origination team members and other business groups to execute the company’s origination goals. 


The Senior Originator will, in addition to fulfilling other related responsibilities:

  • Originate new wind, solar PV, battery storage and other renewable opportunities with C&I customers within the USA;
  • Successfully assess new opportunities based on a thorough understanding of the North American C&I energy business, including markets, technology and competitors; be able to quickly identify attractive opportunities and decline unattractive ones;
  • Work closely and negotiate with C&I counterparties and other stakeholders on projects/transactions;
  • Update Avangrid’s customer relationship management (CRM) system with customer activities, opportunities, customer contact information and forecasted demand;
  • Conduct market research as appropriate;
  • Convert market intel and research into actionable recommendations for project siting with the development team. 
  • Make recommendations regarding the prioritization of origination priorities;
  • Work with the Origination analyst team to prepare Request for Proposal (RFP) responses to C&I opportunities.
  • Create and send out unsolicited proposals to potential C&I customers and generate bilateral opportunities.
  • Work on multiple projects and transactions at any given time with multiple teams.

Skills and Requirements

  • 3 to 5 years of Renewable Origination experience;
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (MBA or related advanced degree preferred);
  • A network of contacts within the energy market (C&I preferred);
  • Is comfortable with exhibiting a respectful but persuasive salesperson persona;
  • Has demonstrated closing origination deals.
  • Client-focused and solution-focused;
  • Demonstrated efficiency in completing multi-disciplinary tasks;
  • Detailed-oriented and able to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability and willingness to travel through the United States (30+% of the time) following relaxation of Covid-19 restrictions and work flexible hours.
  • Is capable of quickly learning new subject matter / business segment areas i.e Battery Storage
  • Has a track record of consistently exceeding professional expectations
  • Skilled in MS Excel, PowerPoint and Word;
