Supervises  the daily activities of the Test Department in the testing and maintenance of UI electrical equipment and protection and control schemes. Accountable for all aspects of performance of theTest Department to maximize efficiencies. Develops plans and sets priorities for successful achievement of goals. Coordinates work activities with other supervisors within and outside of the Department.  Ensures adherence to safety rules, standards and work practices; maintains good housekeeping; and ensures employees accept safety as their personal responsibility. Provides leadership and direction to the workforce to achieve goals and objectives. Strives to meet customer expectations and provide a valued service


Leads the activities of the workforce engaged in the construction, maintenance, and operation activities in accordance with established standards, safety procedures, sound operating practices, and time estimates to ensure maximum efficiencies. Performs safety audits, conducts incident investigations and follows-up on any unsafe conditions and practices. Holds self and workforce accountable for adherence to UI's Safety Manual, safe work practices and DEP, DOT and OSHA regulations.  Ensures compliance with the collective bargaining agreement. Takes disciplinary action, when necessary.  Ensures that employees understand their personal responsibility and accountability to adhere to standards of performance and department objectives in regards to safety and other work related activities.  Makes decisions guided by operating procedures that are in compliance with the company policies, processes and procedures.  Assists in the development of work schedules and the effective use of
 resources in the completion of work activity to goals and objectives.  Interprets customer/stakeholder needs and assesses requirements for resolution. Ensures quality is a priority and that customer appointments and schedules are met.  Assists in the preparation and monitoring of the transmission, distribution, and maintenance budgets and goals. Responsible for working within budgetary and financial objectives set by the Manager.  Ensure management systems (e.g., SAP, Service Suite, etc.) and manufacturer's technical applications (e.g., VistaNet, Aspen, Doble, ALPS, SEL, etc.) are utilized to improve the quality, accuracy, consistency and timeliness of Test Department work.  Requires strong Project Management, Leadership, Communication and Team  Work skills. Must have demonstrated knowledge and experience to set direction, achieve buy-in and motivate others to achieve results. Knowledge of computerized management systems (e.g., SAP, Service Suite, etc.) and manufacturer's technical applications (e.g., VistaNet, Aspen, Doble, ALPS, SEL, etc.).  Individual must have a thorough knowledge of operating procedures, switching and tagging, and the ability to read and understand technical manuals, wiring prints, schematics and diagrams for transmission and substation equipment. Must be qualified on UI's and CONVEX's switching and tagging list. Must be available for emergency work 24/7 and on-call rotation for unscheduled work.

Skills and Requirements

Education: AS Degree Experience:

Requires an Associate's degree from an accredited college/university
 plus 11 years experience with at least 8 years technical experience in electrical testing. Commercial driver's license (CDL) preferred.
