Supervisor - Electric Line Operations

Purpose
• Supervises the daily activities and manages all aspects of performance of the workforce engaged in the construction, maintenance and operations work.
• Mentor and actively assist with enhancing the skill development of other Supervisors in assigned area.
• Responsible for planning, scheduling and project management for the assigned area.
• Supports other Supervisors in the management of the day-to-day work activities of the workforce assisting them in the development of effective supervisory practices that promotes both team and individual job performance.
• Ensures adherence to safety rules, standards and work practices; maintains good housekeeping; and ensures employees accept safety as their personal responsibility.
• Provides leadership and direction to the workforce to achieve goals and objectives.
• Strives to meet customer expectations and provide a valued service.
Responsibilities
• Mentor and actively assist with enhancing the skill development of other Supervisors in assigned area.
• Assist in the preparation and monitoring of transmission, distribution and maintenance budgets and goals.
• Develop work schedules focusing on the effective use of resources in the completion of work activity.
• Ensure safety and quality is a priority and that customer appointments and schedules are met.
• Directly assist the Manager in identifying development areas, developing performance improvement plans and completing performance evaluations in assigned area.
• Provide operational direction to the workforce engaged in the construction, maintenance, and operation activities in accordance with established standards, safety procedures, sound operating practices, and time estimates to ensure maximum efficiencies.
• Perform safety audits, conducts incident investigations, and ensures preventative measures are taken to address any unsafe conditions and practices.
• Hold self and workforce accountable for adherence to UI's Safety Manual, safe work practices and DEP, DOT and OSHA regulations.
• Effectively uses management systems (e.g., SAP, FWM, etc.) in support of company processes.
• Ensure that employees understand their personal responsibility and accountability to adhere to standards of performance and department objectives in regard to safety and other work related activities.
• Ensure compliance with the collective bargaining agreement and take disciplinary action, when necessary.
• Leads grievance meetings and may lead joint union-management work groups or projects.

Skills and Requirements
Qualifications: (minimum qualifications for assignment to this job)
Education: High School Diploma Experience:
Associate's degree in engineering or other technical discipline preferred. Other candidates may be considered who have at least 13 years of very strong electric distribution experience as a line worker or in electrical construction operations including a minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience in a union environment.
Labor relations experience including grievance procedure; conflict resolution and interest-based problem-solving. Knowledge of computerized management systems (e.g., SAP, FWM, etc.).
Individual must have a thorough knowledge of operating procedures, switching and tagging, and the ability to read and understand technical manuals, wiring prints, schematics and diagrams for equipment for assigned areas. Must be qualified on UI's switching and tagging list.
Underground Supervisor must also be qualified on the switching and tagging list. Must be available for on-call, as needed.
Commercial driver's license(CDL) is preferred.
