Purpose
The Director- Corporate Tax (Consolidation) provides tactical leadership, coaching and oversight to a team of highly skilled team of co-sourced tax professionals who produce the companies’ income tax reporting, regulatory and compliance deliverables. This leader focuses on providing value added, quality tax information to our internal and external customers while mentoring and developing Corporate and other tax team members. This leader drives the implementation of tools and process enhancements designed to increase organizational effectiveness and will also build and maintain strong relationships with internal customers. This role is hybrid, including some remote working and reports to the VP of Tax.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the development of overall Corporate Tax Strategies and risk management.
- Establish, maintain, and oversee income tax accounting & reporting processes and procedures to ensure compliance with GAAP and IFRS accounting requirements (including SEC and FERC reporting).
- Oversee development of the consolidated Avangrid Effective Tax Rate Budget & Forecasts.
- Oversee teams responsible for meet federal, state & local tax compliance requirements.
- Assist in continuously improving Avangrid reporting and compliance processes and responsible for internal controls over these processes in coordination with Control.
- Direct/coordinate Avangrid income tax accounting and compliance research in response to accounting (GAAP and IFRS), tax law and business developments and transactions. Prepare associated documentation memos.
- Support evaluation of Avangrid business opportunities through documentation review, business advising and/or analysis.
- Manage Tax Allocation Agreement application and evolution.
- Contribute to the growth and development of team members.
- Manage external auditor relationship and Department responses to information requests related to quarterly and annual tax accounting disclosures/controls.
- Provide team leadership over and Uncertain Tax Positions, Valuation Allowance and unitary tax provision and attribute tax capacity.
- Manage Department stewardship of tax records, including electronic files and tax software datasets.
Skills and Requirements
Required Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree required. (Master's Degree in Taxation, Law and/or CPA preferred.)
Experience/Training:
- 10+ years of relevant experience required.
- Experience in an energy or highly regulated business preferred.
- Experience in an in-bound (multi-national) enterprise helpful.
- SAP experience a plus.
Skills and Requirements:

- Expert knowledge of Income Tax Accounting requirements under GAAP.
