The Offshore Wind Inter-Array Cable Installation Engineer shall be responsible for supporting with the design and engineering of the Transportation and Installation (T&I) elements of the submarine cables package for offshore windfarm development and construction projects.


The Installation Engineer shall contribute to the safe and efficient completion of the Transportation and Installation (T&I) of the Inter Array Cables (IAC) work packages throughout the project lifecycle, this shall include responsibility for:
Tariff Stage
o    Assist with the Development of Conceptual Design for T&I;
o    Assist with the Development and upkeep of a base case construction programme;
o    Assist with the Creation of the Employer’s Technical Requirements for T&I; 
o    Assist with the Technical Evaluation of bids and participation in contract negotiations.
o    Work with the wider business functions (Quality, HSE, Legal, Procurement, Insurance, etc.) to ensure business requirements are reflected in tenders and contracts.
Pre-FID Stage
o    Assist with the Management of Contractor’s early engineering works
o    Assist with the Interface Management
o    Assist with the Tender, technical evaluation of bids.
o    Assist with the Assessment of the technical compliance of the received bids and for providing technical recommendation into the Contractor selection process.
o    Assist with the Assist in the negotiation of the Contractor’s Document’s Schedule and for ensuring its sufficiency within the final contract agreement.
Execution Stage
Responsible for assisting the Installation Manager with all the engineering activities related to the transportation and installation ensuring the compliance of all technical documentation of the package. This shall include:
o    Review of Contractor’s engineering and procedures for T&I;
o    Supervision of Contractor offshore works including T&I and cable termination and testing;
o    Review of As-built reporting and final acceptance of the completed Works;
o    Management of handover process to the operation and maintenance team.
In addition to the above the Installation Engineer shall on request be delegated additional responsibilities, e.g. for health and safety management.

Project Management
•    Support with the development and implementation of example deliverables to standardize reporting in the project.
•    Support with the development and implementation of standard Daily Progress Report (DPR) templates.
•    Log and monitor Contractor’s performance against key metrics such as duration of activities, use of spares, and maintenance time, to enable Contractor’s performance to be adequately assessed.
•    Contribute to the planning, review and implementation of Variation Orders as required.
•    Support the communication process between the package management team, the Contractor, any Related Works Contractors, the Marine Warranty Surveyor, the Independent Verification Society and the Site Management teams.
Responsible to complete or organize, as applicable, the administrative tasks needed by the company and project(s) of assignment, as the job requires.

Additional Responsibilities

•    Assist with the Preparation of the technical documentation that is required for inclusion within ITT and EPCI documentation package(s) (as necessary)
•    Support the technical assessment of bids including; Assessment of T&I solution including consents compliance check; Analysis of bidder’s programme of work; Weather analysis; Vessel assurance check; Cable Trenching analysis and risk assessment, Pull-in calculations, Preliminary cable layout / routing engineering to develop the routing for UXO and surveys and Burial Assessment Study
•    Supporting the technical evaluation process of Contractor’s / Tenderer’s bids and proposals
•    Assist with the Preparation of the package’s consent deliverables (where internal).
•    Provision of technical assistance to the consenting team to assist them in discharging the project’s consent conditions.
•    Support with the completion of the Conceptual Design for T&I, this shall include, Cable Route Layout, Cable burial risk assessment, Seabed Management Plan, Installation Analysis and all Interface engineering activities with WTG foundations and ESP;
•    Review and technical critique of Contractor's installation engineering activities;
•    Support in defining a work package survey strategy and co-ordinate the completion of all required survey works;
•    Preparation of the T&I elements of any documents that are required to support the discharge of our consents;
•    Assist to Develop a cable replacement/repair strategy and methodology.
EPCI contract management
Responsible for supporting the management of EPCI Contractor, this shall include:

  • Provide support in Quality, Health & Safety and Environmental management of Contractor's activities. Provide support in Management of EPCI Contractor's Transportation & Installation works including review of Contractor's procedures.

Execution of the Works
•    Participate in review, approval and management of change of the Contractor's procedures and engineering studies and analysis. 
•    Responsible for liaison with Marine Warranty Surveyor. Support in the management and daily coordination of the offshore works including T&I and cable termination and testing Review and critique the as-installed records;
•    Support with monitoring and reporting progress against programme.
•    Provide support to the quality manager to ensure satisfactory close out of NCR's relating to transportation and installation.
Knowledge transfer
•    Including but not limited to Lessons Learnt from and to other projects of the business.
•    Development of corporate procedures.
•    Technical, management and administrative support to R&D initiatives where the company is involved, as well as dissemination of results.

Skills and Requirements


Degree or equivalent experience in relevant engineering discipline.  


Minimum 1 year’s experience at installation engineer level or equivalent.

Direct experience of submarine cable engineering (preferably offshore wind)

Proven track record of safe involvement in the execution of complex offshore works in hazardous marine environments.

Demonstrable experiences in:
o    engineering design;
o    production of specification and tender documents;
o    contracts (/subcontracts) negotiations (technical aspects);
o    subsea cables installation method statements;
o    construction planning;
o    budgetary estimations;


The project has an international team of employees and the working language is English. Candidates need to be fluent in English both spoken and written (full professional proficiency). 

Working knowledge and understanding of: 
o    US Health and Safety legislation relevant to subsea cables and marine operations.
o    OSHA Standards
o    DNV standards for offshore wind.
o    Highly developed communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills, particularly related to multicultural relationships.
o    Workload management to ensure the delivery of planned and unplanned activities 
o    Commercial awareness (incl. FIDIC contracts). 
o    Knowledge of HV Safety Rules and cable termination and testing.
o    Knowledge of Orca flex analysis.
