Purpose


The Manager – OSW (Offshore Wind) WTG (Wind Turbine Generator) Engineering role is focused on assisting with the delivery of operational requirements in the US Offshore business. Working with Contractors and multiple departments within Offshore Operations and Commercial Services to ensure that Avangrid’s long term asset value and production revenue is maximized.  The role will be focused on supporting the wind turbine equipment in Avangrid’s Offshore wind projects and will interface with the wind turbine OEMs and O&M service providers.  This position is based in Boston, MA, on a Hybrid schedule.
 
Belonging to the Offshore Operations Team the Manager – OSW WTG Engineering will be responsible for defining and implementing robust and cost-effective engineering strategies for the operational requirements including management of contractors and associated interfaces, and ensuring quality, best practices and excellent H&SE performance are applied. 

The Manager – OSW WTG Engineering will also be responsible for building and leading the WTG engineering team.  This team will support the various projects in all matters related to WTG and will also liaise with the wider O&M Global teams for implementing lessons learned from Iberdrola’s group’s projects into the US projects and exchanging best practices.  

The Manager – WTG Engineering is responsible for providing high quality and consistent service across offshore projects within Avangrid.  
 
The individual will be working as part of a global business with activities in many countries across US, UK, and the rest of the world. The position may require travel to various locations.
 
Offshore industry is still relatively immature, and a key focus is on driving down cost. This role will play a large part in developing initiatives to reduce the cost of service during the operational phase.

Responsibilities


•    Delivery of robust and cost-effective engineering strategies for the operational requirements, providing engineering support, assistance and recommendations to ensure delivery within time, to budget and quality following industry best practice and observing the maximum respect for Health, Safety and the Environment to ensure regulatory and legal compliance’
•    Manage WTG engineering team, develop talent, and provide mentorship to junior engineers
•    Implement offshore standards, procedures, tools, best practices, and quality requirements.
•    Develop technical specifications for maintenance agreements.
•    Developing HSE strategies for operations and ensuring a high standard of health and safety awareness is maintained.
•    Provide advice on operational solutions / risk levels affecting technical integrity or asset performance to Principal Project Managers to ensure that cost effective solutions are identified, fully evaluated and the risk profile is fully understood.
•    Make technical recommendations to Project Managers based on the condition of the assets, production, and other KPIs.
•    Support the coordination of EPC interfaces and Project Services Engineering Team to ensure the operational requirements are identified, fully evaluated, and actioned during project execution.
•    Liaise with the other Global Offshore Business Hub Engineering teams ensuring lessons learned and best practices are capture and shared across the different Offshore Projects. 
•    Deliver technical due diligence to the handover from construction and the transition through end of warranty of offshore wind assets.
•    Ensure that all assessment, advice, and recommendations are fully documented in accordance with all internal procedures and industry best practice, and that sufficient technical and commercial due diligence (whether internal or external) exists to support those business decisions.

Skills and Requirements


•    Degree in engineering, math, physics, or other technical discipline
•    Postgraduate experience, preferable in operation of wind turbines  
•    Some experience with offshore wind operations preferred.
•    Experience of renewables / power generation industry preferred.
•    Effective communication and interpersonal skills. 
•    Developed report writing and presentation skills and ability to summarize parameters and drivers impacting the scope of works.
•    Good organizational and operational skills with the ability to link this awareness to technical judgement and decision making.
•    Good planning and analysis skills with the ability to look forward and anticipate problems and thereafter plan and implement mitigating solutions to negate the effect of such problems. 
•    Ability to support the management of a scope of works which require interface and coordination. Advice on the impact of technical/ specialist risks and issues and the viability of solutions recommended.
•    Experience and understanding of technical due diligence.

•    Ability to climb 100-meter steel towers on a regular basis to perform engineering inspections of wind turbines 
•    Ability to occasionally lift items weighing up to 50 pounds.
•    Ability to complete GWO basic safety and sea survival training
