Lead Engineer - Substation

Purpose
The Lead Engineer is an engineer position with responsibilities over the portfolio of projects assigned to the Maine Customer Funded Projects Unit, ensuring each project is engineered in compliance with regulations, company standards, and consistently across the board.
Position reports to the Unit Manager, but the position will work day-to-day in cross functional project team and support project needs as dictated by the Project Manager and Unit Manager.
Responsibilities
•Oversee project engineering, perform complex engineering analysis, review designs and calculations using standard methodology & principals.
•Support projects in the planning and development of agreements with customers.
•Approve, maintain, and understand drawings (e.g., schematics, one-line diagrams, etc.,).
•Specify equipment, assemble documents, & other requirements for assignments of complex level of difficulty using depth & breadth of expertise in own discipline.
•Ensure all engineering designs implemented by the company meet applicable company, local, state, and national codes, and standards.
•Considers innovative ways to undertake work, promoting automation and efficiencies in day-to-day work streams.
•Mentor, develop and support project team in technical skills
•Liaison/ direct contractors on company policy, standards, and best practices.
•Communicate with customers the requirements for interconnection.
•Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure their needs are met.
For Lead Engineers: Utilize knowledge to influence and guide department engineers.
Provide technical leadership in complex projects that have a wide impact on the department
Mentor, develop and support team in technical skills
Ability to collaborate across departments
Liaison/ direct contractors on company policy, standards and best practices
Work independently with little supervision

•Theoretical Engineering knowledge: Planning, Operations and Engineering Design, Analytics, Modeling & Calculation (e.g. sym. Components, per unit, etc.), Understanding the Business Model

•Practical Engineering Experience/Application: Planning, Operations and Engineering Design, Construction, (e.g. field experience, standardization, develop business case and defend in front of stakeholders)

Education & Experience Required:
•Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering required
•5- 7+ years relevant experience required
